As more & more use the word ‘organic’, at markets & on packaging, choosing ‘certified organic’ is your only guarantee that the product is indeed organic.
We have always chosen to stock certified organic fruit & veg. Even if we are out of stock & someone
offers us ‘organic’ lemons from their back yard, because they ‘don’t use any sprays’, if they are not certified organic we don’t accept them. Unfortunately many ‘organic’ or ‘health food’ stores stock both organic & non organic produce.
It was only natural that, being a supporter of the certification system, we would choose for our stores & cafes to become certified organic. There are 8 organic certifiers in Australia. These certifiers are all governed by the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service ( AQIS), on behalf of the Australian Government. We are certified with Australia’s largest & most respected certifier Australian Certified Organic ( ACO ). In fact recently ACO won the Choice award for ‘ Best Food Endorsement Program’.
Certifying our stores involved an extensive audit by an independent auditor of our systems, procedures & supply chain across all areas including grocery & bulk. Each year we will be reassessed, with an unannounced audit, before our certification is renewed. So next time you visit your local market or health food store ask if all the produce is certified organic. At least with certification someone is watching! Otherwise you may find the produce is grown using chemicals & in soils which are lacking in nutrients.
